Rome, through my eyes:

Three Words to Describe Rome: 1) Grandiose 2) Overwhelming 3) Vintage Feeling: Overwhelmed & Appalled. Music Highlight: Hans Zimmer (For every time you enter places with pillars quadruple your size, and believe me there are many such places. ) The Humble Abode: Wondering where to stay in Rome? If you are backpacking with your friends, or a teenager travelling alone and want to go light on your pockets, www.hostelworld.com is your best friend. The site has incredible deals on hostel dorms around the World. My personal recommendation: Comics Guest House- Yes you read it right. Comics guest house lives up to its name and has Superman, Ironman, Batman & Spiderman (who is on the ceiling btw) welcoming you. The interiors of the hostel are filled with memes from the Simpsons, DC & Marvel Comics, and a whole lot of anime. Located very close to a metro station, this hostel is very accessible. The host is extremely helpful. The common area consists of a small kitchen, washing machines and a TV room for you to socialize with other young travelers whilst playing video games or watching movies. A vending machine adds to this affordable luxury! For people who want to be as far away from the shenanigans of the current generation as possible, booking an airbnb is your best bet. (www.airbnb.com) Or you could go for picturesque Roman hotels, luxuries us students can't afford to even research about.

Rome is a place for one and all. If you are someone who likes to re-live the past, you will be appalled by the grandiose architecture and the overwhelming history behind it. If you are someone who barely made it through History class, Rome has a lovely lake for you to sit by and buzzing streets for you to discover. Rome will make you bawl over the most exquisite vintage cars and Vespas of different colors that you do not own. The divine pasta followed by a gelato to which the law of diminishing marginal utility does not apply, will only make you want to stay here longer.

My Top 5 'things-to-do' in Rome:

  • Walk around the streets of Rome bustling with tourists to exchange smiles, listen to 20 different languages and reassure yourself that you are not the only one feeling lost, and free.

  • Sit by River Tiber to pause, reflect and be awed by the clouds putting up a performance in the heavenly skies of Rome.

  • The Villa Borghese gardens are a must visit. Turned into extensive gardens from former vineyards, these gardens will reassure you that the grass is greener on your side. Walk around, cycle, skateboard or rent a segway and breathe in the fresh air all around you. Tips: 1) Grab a picnic basket, fill it with a sheet, local wine, a few sandwiches and host a memorable picnic in the garden, just like old times. 2) Also look out for daily art sessions in and around the Villa, gallery or garden. 3) Take a moment to capture Rome in its entirety before entering the Villa Borghese.

  • Gelato, it is actually as dreamy and divine as all of us bloggers make it sound. Stop by at any Gelateria, settle your confused mind onto 2 flavours and savour the simple pleasures of life.

  • Try to make it in time for the holy mass inside St. Peter's Basilica. (Monday-Saturday: Every hour from 7 am to 12 pm, and then 5 pm. Sundays- 9:00 am, 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 12:15 pm, 1:00 pm, 4:00 pm and 5:45 pm) I am not a very religious person, however, some experiences leave you stunned. Luckily enough, I was in time for the 5:45 pm mass on Sunday. What they said was incomprehensible for me as they spoke in Italian. What followed though, is why I recommend you to be part of this experience. Everyone turned to their neighbors, on all four sides, shook hands and mouthed the words "may peace be with you". It may not sound extraordinary. But, think about how many times do we ordinarily, in our daily lives, use such words. It IS unfortunately, extra-ordinary. Tip: Appropriate dressing is necessary. You will not be allowed to enter if you are wearing shorts, sleeve-less tops or skirts. This applies to both women and men.
